Final Project

Start: I want to begin my project of the theme of dance. I am planning to interview some people like dancing and want to make clips about why they like dancing or their story about dancing, adding some dance movements into clips. Finally, I want to take a clip about myself and tell why I like.
Final video

When I begin brainstorming for my project, I am trying to find out what I like and want to do a project about it. Until I have my dance classes again, I come up with some idea. I am planning to make a video about dancing, my favorite. I want to interview teammates working with me for my final dance project. I would like to ask some questions to all of them, like do you like dance and why, something like that, and make their solutions all together. Another thing is that I want to record their body responses to the music, how they dance when they are happy, and I also want to make that all together and make quickly changing. Finally, I want to take a video about the dance I choreograph with my teammates and my reason liking dancing and feelings at the end of the video. The more important thing I want to point out in my video is free style of our dancing, just changing all the time with feelings changing in the daily life.

When I am doing the project, it is really difficult to separate yes answers from each person because of the short time and I separate again and again and spend much time on that. I want to connect questions and answers and the choregraph of our dance. I insert a piece of dance in the middle of the yes question and why question. After I finish video stuff, I find out it is weired that answers transfer to the dance. So I insert some text and animations in my clips. For the questions, do you like dance? Why do you like dance? Actually I don’t use the original one, I took another video for questions and import and export only the sound in the video. However, the screen is dark when the I ask question. I finally figure out that I can have a collection of pictures of teammates and dance movements, which can connect clips well. Finally, the music I first use is kind of modern, but it is not well coincided with my clips, so I choose the music of the dance.

After I finish all work and export the video, when I see the video again, I just found out I made a huge mistake that I forget to make size of the text smaller at the first of the slide. When I go back to work on original video in i-movie, I am really stuck because after I change the words smaller, the sound accompanying with the some parts of video can’t have the sound. I really don’t know why and I try many times. Finally, I just use the clips which have some mistakes. For the final video, I realize I also made a mistake when I take a video for my teammates. I am supposed to make the screen of video larger when I am taking, because I can’t fix it in the i-movie, I think, and I also try when I find that problem. The video I produce is kind of consistent with the idea before I begin my video making.

Failure Prompt

From my perspective, the biggest success in this semester I made was Micro Project 2, which asked us make a map to classes. I was satisfied with the final result I came out based on those reasons. First, the color of arrows I made were my favorite and always gave me a pleasant feeling when I saw it. Secondly, I like pictures I took in snow day and the angle I chose, like the turning point and the corner. Thirdly, some extra interesting things like animal steps made my map look like cute, which I think those gave people good impressions when they saw the map. I also really liked the statement I wrote for this project because I revised it over and over again, adding descriptions of all elements in my map, of reasons I chose those elements, of feelings I had at that time. After I read the statement again, I can kind of felt I was in pictures on the map and still remembered beautiful scenes at that day. Recalling the process I made the map, I found out carefulness was the most important thing when I was doing a project. I learned how to well deal with the distance from each picture, what elements I put on the map can well show my information and let other people understand very quickly. I learned how to well deal with the relationship between each layers and connect each layers, and then make my mp look like a clear route. 

To be blunt, the biggest failure in the semester was my micro project 4, making the sound video. My ideas were not creative and not interesting. At the time I was doing the project, actually, I recorded the sound of my backpack, keyboard, elevator and people talking in the library. However, I did some technical mistake and I did not know how fix it. The sound of people talking in the library was very light and I even could not find it when I imported my sound to guitar garage. I did not want the sound of video seemed like having a span when people listened to the sound video, therefore, I deleted that part. I was also not satisfied with my idea because it was too normal. Actually, although the place was library, I also could recorded some interesting things happening in the library to be my source. From Micro project 4, I understood if I want to make a succussful project, I need not only the carefulness, but also a good idea for my project. Project having those two requirements can be improved better by using digital techniques. And some details in the project can make the project look like better.

If let me have a chance to redo one project, I definitely chose micro project 4. I will begin this project from recording another video which is more intriguing, trying to record each sound I want to show in my sound video very carefully, and focus more on details on my video when I adding some mixed sound and other elements.  

Micro Project 5

My actions words are mix and layering. To be blunt, I can image many things having characteristic of mixing, but layering is kind of tough for me. I chose the yogurt I make in Morril Commons by myself, since it happens in my daily life, I enjoy the process of making the yogurt, I like eating yogurt very much and I want to combine those words and display them from the thing I like. At the beginning, I don’t realize those words are in my daily life; when I type the word in google images, I found the layering cake in images, then I got that idea. First, I picked up a bowl; secondly, I have some fruits, like grapes, pineapples on the bottom of the bowl, and fruits make make the layering appear more three-dimensional; thirdly, I poured some yogurt on the top of fruit salad; then, I put some cereal which is my favorite on the yogurt. In the process I making, I got three layers, fruit, yogurt and cereal; also, those three things are mixed in a bowl when I eat them. 

Micro project 4

Response to Carver

When I generally know this article is talking about a blind man, I am really interested in what the blind man’s life is going on in the house of woman. I really like the description of appearance of the blind man and the movement of his eyes, because I also think how the blind man looks like as the same way as the man think. No black glasses, having beards, smoking, using fork and knife well and recognizing the color TV without seeing surprise me a lot. I also like the comparison of behaviors treating to Robert of the man and the woman showing in the article.

What confuses me is why the man wants to talk about something about the old sofa and how can he relate old sofa to the train and something he wants to mention, which kind of doesn’t have any connection. I don’t like the character the husband of the woman, because I think he is kind of stubborn, disrespectful to the blind man sometimes and complacent.

Response to Wallace

This article is talking about a speaker is addressing graduation speech to graduates. Although I am still a undergraduate, this article is kind of related to my life and give me some expectations and thoughts about my future. I really like the author uses didactic short story to illustrate the point he wants to mainly talk about, for example, the story about a religious and atheist having different attitudes to God think from different perspectives on the same event. 

The thesis of this article is talking about how to think, instead of teaching people how to think. I am kind of confused when the author addressed that because when the author is writing so many to illustrate how people think, some people may unconsciously think in the way the author tell in some certain situation, like shopping in the supermarket. I don’t like the author describes people thinking pessimistically when they are in the traffic jam and shopping in crowded supermarket, because I think, although graduates need to know how different the life they will face, we should provide some better expectations for them.However, some optimistic perspectives in those situations listed is good examples.

Micro project 3

Memo: I choose it because I like to write down events and things I have to finish that day on the memo in everyday morning, because it can make me not forget doing important stuff and finish stuff efficiently.



Effective reminder

USB flash drive: I choose it because I don't like bring my heavy computer walking on campus every day, which makes me really tired every day, so I like to copy important documents and studied notes into USB. In this way, I can study and do my homework in anywhere having computers available on campus.

Useful helper

Lip balm: I choose it because it is the most important thing to make me look energetic when I smile and talk to other people. My lip is very dry all the time because of the weather in Columbus. Therefore, I like to put a lip balm into my pocket, whenever I feel my lip is dry and I can have some lip balm on my lip to keep it feel humid.



Necessity 

Gloves: I choose it because I have to walk to my classes from my dorms every day, and the wind here is heavy, particularly in snowy days and rainy days. Gloves can keep me warm and I am able to write and study more concentrated when my hands are warm.



Essentials

Water bottle: I choose it because I need to drink water whenever I am thirsty. There are many places I can access to the water on the campus, having a water bottle is convenient for me. Also, I like to work out and dancing when I am free, so a water bottle is necessary for me on campus.


Everyday demand

From that picture, some objects can greatly reflect my personality. The memo suggests that I am a  careful and organized people; because I am worried about forgetting stuff and slowing down everyday working tempos, I need a memo to remind me every time. Lip balm implies that I am a person caring my appearance so I can't let my lip look dry and less of energy. Gloves reflects that I know how to protect, take care of myself and be independent in the college, having gloves which keep me warm can prevent me from having a cold. Those three stuff reflect my personalities, but water bottle and USB flash drive not greatly show who I am, because those two things, I think, are essential almost for every student in daily lives and on study in the college.
